Jim Rutta

September 14, 1954 - October 28, 2017

James Alan “Jim” Rutta, 63, of Columbus, Texas passed away on October 28, 2017 north of Eagle Lake, Texas.

He was born on September 14, 1954 to James Milton “Bill” and Bettye Jo (McCue) Rutta in Columbus, Texas. On June 16, 1975 he married his best friend, Arden Gerke. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, and lived his lifetime in Columbus.

Jim worked for many years in the family business at Elliott and Waldren Abstract Company as a partner and retired to live out the rest of his career in the oilfield as operator of Camoil, Inc.

Jim had a passion for all things outdoors; his love for hunting, fishing and conservation efforts led him to become involved in Ducks Unlimited early on in his life. He began his tenure within the organization as a chapter chairman for Columbus, and then became Texas State Chairman and served 1995-1998. Immediately following, he became a Board Member at Large and served on numerous advisory committees. He also served as Regional Vice President of the South Central Region for 4 years, Jim lived for the ducks. He was also an active member of the National Rifle Association and various other conservation organizations all over the United States.

Jim is survived by his wife, Arden Rutta of Columbus, Texas; daughter, Christi Rutta Young of Katy, Texas; and three grandchildren, Chloe Rutta, Olivia Rutta, and Sadie Rutta.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Michael Dennis Rutta.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus.

A Memorial service will follow on Friday at 2:00 pm at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus with Rev. Victor Morrison officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Ducks Unlimited, Attn: Memorial Contributions, One Waterfowl Way, Memphis, Tennessee 38210; or charity of your choice.
