Doris Doney Cobb

August 27, 1921 - September 7, 2017

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Doris Doney Cobb, age 96, will be held on
September 19, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church of Columbus with Pastor Mark Brechin officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery in Houston.

Mrs. Cobb was born on August 27, 1921, in Houston to Doris Doney Murphy and Thomas Elza Murphy. She passed away on September 7, 2017, at Columbus Oaks Health-care under the care of Brazos Valley Hospice.

Doris Doney Cobb and William Eaton Cobb were married in Houston on September 2, 1942, during Billís 24-hour leave from the Navyís ship, the H.L. Pratt, as it docked in Port Arthur, Texas. They began married life in Oakland, California, where their only child, Cheryl Naneen, was born in 1945. The family returned to Houston when Billís tour in the U.S. Navy ended. In 1952, Bill and Doris moved to Columbus where they lived until being transferred back to Houston in 1959. After retirement in 1979, the Cobbs returned to make their home in Columbus.

Mrs. Cobb had an interesting secretarial career, having been a secretary in the Coca Cola Bottling Company of Houston and of Oakland, California until moving to Columbus where she served as part-time secretary and church organist for First Methodist Church. Upon moving back to Houston, she served as a secretary at First Methodist Church, Southwest Methodist Church, and Riverside Methodist Church. She finished her career with Mandrel Industries>Geosource, Inc. of Houston.

Mrs. Cobb was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill Cobb, and her daughter Cheryl Ingman. She has no surviving family members, but is remembered lovingly by special friend and neighbor, Joni Duncan, and ďadoptedĒ daughters and life-time friends of Cheryl, Marilew Cunningham Lary and Sally Mehrens Mitchell.
