Phil James Otto

March 3, 1953 - August 9, 2017

Phil James Otto of Weimar, TX passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017 with his wife, daughters, and pastor by his side. He was 64 years of age.

He is survived by his wife, LuEllen (Engelmohr), of Weimar, daughters, Jessica Carroll and husband Daniel, also of Weimar, Katie Holland and husband Corey, of Minneapolis; brothers, Howard, Willis and his wife Genevieve, of Katy, Dennis and his wife Patricia, of Schulenburg; sisters, Catherine Poppe and her husband Dennis, of Weimar, Marilyn Rodgers and her husband John, of Montgomery.

Phil was born on March 3, 1953 in Weimar to the late Ernest and Justine Otto. He attended Weimar High School and after various farming and ranching jobs, began a career as a welder working both as an independent contractor and in many shops along I-10 and around Weimar.

A country boy at heart, Phil always enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time in nature. It was actually a hunting trip that led him to the Engelmohr Ranch in February of 1982 where he met LuEllen, the love of his life and partner in Christ that he had prayed for. Both of them instantly knew they had found the one and got married only four months later on July 17, 1982. They celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary just about a month before Phil’s passing. Having both retired several years ago, Phil and LuEllen spent much of their time being active in their church, Equippers Outreach Fellowship (of Weimar), making improvements to their new house and property on CR 215, and cataloging the wildlife that called their land home.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest EH Otto and Justine (Kroboth) Otto.

Visitation is being held this Sunday, August 13 from 9:30-11:00 am at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, TX with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 am. He will be interred at Miller Creek Cemetery in Oak Creek Community, near Weimar, TX.

Pallbearers are Darrell Kroboth, cousin, Cody Engelmohr and Darrell Poppe, nephews, and Douglas Pesak, Aaron Pesak, Brandon Pesak, John Henrichsen, Jackie Wotipka, Clifford Schindler, and Tuan Do, family friends.

Honorary pallbearers are Marv Ulbricht, Kevin Kroboth and Laurence Obenhaus.

Memorials may be given to Equippers Outreach Fellowship; 200 North College Street; Weimar, TX 78962.
