I am a Veteran.Edwin "Puddy" J. Gundelach, Jr.

October 14, 1948 - September 1, 2018

Beloved Puddy Gundelach went home to be with the Lord on September 1, 2018. He passed peacefully, comforted by his family & dear friends. Edwin John Gundelach Jr. was born in Sealy, TX on October 14, 1948. He was the first of six children for Edwin & Hester Mary Gundelach of Columbus, TX. Mrs. Gundelach often referred to her son Edwin as her Little Puddin'. Over time, his siblings began to call him, Puddy. The endearing nickname stuck.

After graduating from Columbus High School, He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. While serving, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, the Philippines, & very briefly, Vietnam. He worked as a Marine Corp Avionics Technician. Sergeant Gundelach was awarded the Rifle Expert Badge & the Good Conduct Medal.

Of all his adventures & achievements, his greatest joy was being a father and grandfather. Puddy was very proud of his boys. His grandsons Damian & Greyson were often the topic of conversation, they were the brightest light of his life. He treasured his time with them & loved to brag about their accomplishments.

Puddy had a deep love and respect for nature. He would often sit outside with friends that had become family and admire the birds or watch for deer. He greatly enjoyed taking his grandson, Damian fishing. Several nieces and nephews recall Uncle Puddy being with them on their first hunting trips. He looked for what he called, "Nat. Geo" moments, picturesque experiences that could have been featured in National Geographic. This appreciation made him very serious about recycling. He always encouraged his friends & family to follow suit. Many can recall him fussing over the kitchen trash can, instructing everyone on what can & should be recycled.

Puddy Gundelach is a celebrated member of several families in Columbus. If you were his friend, you are his family. He lovingly adopted his best friend's children as his own nieces and nephews. Puddy, a lovable prankster was often a source of support & encouragement to many.

He is preceded in death by: Parents, Edwin John Gundelach & Hester Mary Gundelach, daughter, Marilyn Gundelach, & sister, Betty Lou "Bobo" Gundelach.

Puddy is survived by his son, Derrick Gundelach & his girlfriend, Jessica Tristan, Grandsons, Damian & Greyson Gundelach, his sisters, Pat Wine & husband, Tom, Virginia Cowart & husband, Mark, brothers, Gordon Gundelach & wife Charlette, & Brian Gundelach. Nieces & Nephews, Chrissy Fleming & husband Matt. Michael Sizemore, Matt Gundelach, Elliott Gundelach, & Meaghan Gundelach, many great nieces & nephews, cousins, & faithful friends.
