Fay Beth Elliott

December 21, 1936 - September 2, 2018

Fay Beth Elliott passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018. She was born in Houston, Texas on December 21, 1936 to Robert Benjamin Elliott and Ora Minnie Vogelsang Elliott. She graduated from Milby High School in Houston. Fay was an employee at Southwestern Bell Telephone in the early days of computers where she fed cards into the key punch machine to input data into the system. She moved to Columbus in 1970 and transferred to the local Southwestern Bell office, working there until the office closed. She then worked at the Columbus Chamber of Commerce before becoming the church secretary for the First Baptist Church, where she had been a longtime member. She ran the church office under several pastors, including Rev. Raymond Cox and Rev. Sammy Carr, before retiring.

Fay loved to travel and for many years, organized legendary bus trips for the Happy Travelers Group. The first trip was to the 1982 World's Fair in Nashville, Tennessee and after that, Happy Travelers went to all corners of the country, including Yellowstone National Park and Branson, Missouri. She also organized regular trips for the church's Extra Special People (ESP) group which included many dinners and trips to the Bluebonnet Trail.

Fay enjoyed volunteering and was named a "Volunteer of the Year" by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. She was a charter member of the Pilot Club, a past president of the Garden Club, and a member of United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was very involved with Friends of Zimmerscheidt Historic School and a charter member of the Colorado County Chapter of Texas German Society, serving as past president, long time treasurer and a member of the group's choir. After battling breast cancer, she was active in the Cancer Survivors Group. She was an avid genealogist who researched the history of the Elliott and Vogelsang families.

Fay had many friends and family in the Columbus area and will greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Ora Elliott, and brother, Kenneth Ray Elliott. She is survived by her nephew, Ken Elliott and wife Nicole of Austin; niece Lisa Elliott Trahan and husband Ric of Austin, and niece Amy Elliott Stancik and husband Joey of Frelsburg. She is also survived by great-nephews Elliott Trahan and Lee Trahan, and great-niece Sarah Elliott, all of Austin.

Fay loved flowers and always had something blooming in her yard. In honor of her love of gardening, friends are encouraged to wear something colorful to her services.
