Thomas G. Russell, Sr., age 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep July 20, 2018 in Columbus, Texas. Tom was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 9, 1932. He was the son of Catherine and G. D. Russell of Kenedy Texas. He attended the Kenedy public schools and San Antonio Academy, ultimately graduating from Kenedy High School in 1950.
Tom served in the United States Navy Mine Force Pacific Fleet, March 1951 to March 1955, during the Korean War. After his tour in the Navy he worked in the Air Conditioning / Energy conservation industry in Houston and many states in the Northeast. He and Marilyn moved to Columbus after his retirement in 1998. Tom was very active in the VFW Post #6113 and the American Legion Post #383, both of Columbus, Texas.
Tom's remains will be interred at the Kenedy Cemetery in the family plot beside his parents and grandparents.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Marilyn (Mischer), three sons and daughter-in-laws, Thomas Jr. and wife Debbie, of Houston, William and wife, Nancy of New Braunfels and John and wife, Jackie of Needville, four grandchildren Kimberly, Kristopher, Dustin and Stephen, along with 3 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 1229 Milam St., Columbus, Texas 78934. Family will receive friends at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center on Monday from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM. Honorary pallbearers are Thomas G. Russell, Jr., William L. Russell, John D. Russell, Kristopher G. Russell, Dustin D. Russell and Stephen K. Russell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, 1229 Milam St., Columbus, Texas 78934 or charity of your choice.
