Raymond James Heine

February 21, 1926 - January 6, 2018

Raymond James Heine, 91, passed away on January 6, 2018, at Trucare Living Center in Columbus, Texas. Raymond was a dedicated and loving husband, father and friend who lived a full life. He was known by all for his kindness and willingness to help those in need. Raymond was born in Nada, Texas on February 21, 1926 to Adolph C. Heine and Elizabeth Braden Heine. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1943 then attended The University of Texas before joining the Army Air Force during World War II in March 1944. He was an Aerial Gunner and Cryptographic Technician, honorably discharged May 8, 1946.

After his service, he returned to Columbus where he went to work for The Southern Pacific Railroad. He married Dorothy Jean Maxwell on December 6, 1948 and the couple moved into his lifetime home they built in Glidden, Texas. He and Dorothy Jean had two daughters, Estelle and Mary Jean. In 1965, when Southern Pacific closed the Glidden yards, he went to A&M University where he graduated in 1970. He worked in Houston in Commercial Construction until his retirement in 1988.

Raymond was very active in the community and was recognized by the Colorado County Commissioners Court in 2008 for his many years of service to the citizens and civic, governmental and religious organizations throughout Colorado County.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Dorothy Jean, his parents, brothers Adolph (Junior) Heine and Andrew Franz and wife Mary and sister Adela Ilse and husband Ellis. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Estelle Mostyn and husband Ron, daughter Mary Jean Granger and husband Darron, and his grandson Jonathan Coleman (Cole) Hopkins. He also leaves behind step grandchildren including Casey Mostyn Cook and husband Scott, Kristen, Courtney and Paul Michalsky and Kevin Granger and wife Kendra, Keaton and Kyle, his brother-in-law Vernon (Booty) Haynes and wife Grace, sister-in-law Linda Settle and husband Tommy, and numerous nephews and nieces. He will be missed by his long-time companion, Bernice Stancik and his extended Ilse and Stancik families and by his caretaker, Melinda Sewell.

A Memorial Service will be held at Henneke Funeral Home Saturday, January 20, 2017 at 10 am. Pastor Clayton Wallin will conduct the service.
