L J Braden

March 20, 1930 - January 5, 2018

L J Braden, 87, passed away on January 5, 2018, at Columbus Community Hospital following a brief illness. L J was born March 20, 1930 to Leo J. Braden and Lula Brod Braden of Bernardo. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1948. He then went to work in Houston and was later drafted into the army for the Korean War. He served 2 years at Fort Sam Houston as a clerk.

After the service, he returned to Houston where he worked for Peden Iron and Steel and Clayton Anderson. After the death of his father in 1963, L J moved home to Columbus to care for his mother and the family farm. He went to work for Colorado County Tax office and then went to work for Colorado County Savings and Loan. After the savings and loan closed he went to work for Industry State Bank until he retired in 2008. He was married to Lois Drymalla on July 18, 1975.

L J was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member. He was very active in the community over his lifetime helping in many different civic and religious organizations.

Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Elmer and Reuben Braden, and sister Myrtle Vogelsang, and Margaret Robertson a niece from San Antonio. He is survived by his wife Lois Braden of Columbus, niece Mary Braden of Washington DC, Chuck and Sharon Hall brother-in-law and sister-in-law of Columbus, Jason and Amy Hall nephew and niece of Houston, and Jared Hall nephew and his daughter and L Jís great niece Jaelynn Hall both of Columbus. John and Sharon Cotton nephew and niece from Katy, and nephews Douglas Cotton from Monterrey Mexico and Jason Cotton from Columbus Ohio, and niece Rachel Hout of Katy. Also is survived by 14 great nieces and nephews, and LeAnn Frnka, a friend of many years who shared their home for the past 2 years.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at St. Roch Catholic Church in Mentz.

A Memorial service will follow on Friday, January 12, 2018, 2:00 pm at St. Roch Catholic Church in Mentz with Fr. Michael Lyons officiating. Burial in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.

In lieu of flowers, family requests that all memorials be made to St. Anthony Catholic School Capital Campaign Fund, 635 Bonham St., Columbus, TX 78934; or St. Roch Catholic Church Building Fund, 1600 Frelsburg Rd., Alleyton, TX 78935.
